- According to a study by the Task Force of the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, boys that drink have been reported to try alcohol before the age of 12, as compared to girls, who are generally aged 15 or older.
- Because alcohol is primarily a depressant of the central nervous system, drinking liquor produces relaxation, reduced inhibitions, impaired concentration, slowed reflexes, reduced reaction time, and reduced coordination.
- It is estimated that more than 3 million teenagers in the U.S. between the ages of 14 to 17 are problem drinkers.
- An estimated 25% of college students report failing a test or project because of the aftereffects of drinking alcohol or doing drugs.
